About Rouen

Located in the Upper Normandy region in the northwest of France, Rouen is the provincial center of Seine-Maritime. According to the 2007 data, approximately 417 thousand people live in the city which is divided into two by the Seine River. Rouen, which was one of the largest and wealthiest cities in medieval Europe, was known as the capital city of the Anglo-Norman dynasty in the 11th century. The local people in the city are called Rouennais. In the city, which is famous for the Notre Dame Cathedral, there is an astronomical clock made in the 16th century called The Gros Horloge. In the city, which is home to many museums, churches from the 15th century are among the places to visit.

While the main railway connects Paris and Le Havre to Gare de Rouen-Rive-Droite, regional train transportation is also provided. Transportation in the city is mostly provided by trams and buses.
