About Kurgan
Kurgan is the capital city of the Kurgan Oblast in the Ural Federal District of the Russian Federation. The city is the industrial and commercial center of the Oblast, and has an economy based on oil and natural gas.
A Humid continental climate prevails in the city. Summer months are warm and rainy, winter months are hard and very cold. The temperature between November and March is rarely measured above freezing, and the city frequently experiences blizzards, frost events and snowfall during the winter.
Urban transport is mainly provided by buses and minibuses. Taxis are also common in Kurgan, where transportation is quite cheap. Kurgan Airport, the city's airport, is located about 6 km north-east of the city center.
Kurgan Central Park is a lush area in the city where people of all ages can be seen enjoying themselves. You can go for a walk in the park, a picnic, a coffee break, or have fun at this fun, verdant park. The park is designed as a large island in the middle of a circle of water.
Pushkin Shopping Center features shops, supermarket, dining areas and cinema : a big shopping area where you can find almost anything you might be looking for. The Kurgan Art Museum and the Kurgan History Museum are important centers that will provide you with a close understanding of local culture. St. Alexander Nevsky Cathedral is one of the architectural icons of the city. Yet half of the local people in the city describe themselves as deist or atheist.
