As of 2023, it has a population of approximately 700,000 people. Jammu is known for its scenic beauty, spiritual significance, and vibrant cultural heritage.

Jammu experiences a humid subtropical climate, with hot summers, a monsoon season, and cool winters. The best time to visit Jammu is from October to March, when the weather is more pleasant and conducive to exploring the city and its surroundings.

Jammu is served by Jammu Airport, also known as Satwari Airport, located about 8 kilometers from the city center. Airlines such as Air India, GoAir, and IndiGo provide direct flights from major UAE cities like Abu Dhabi and Dubai, making it accessible for UAE travelers.

The cuisine of Jammu is a rich blend of Dogra and Kashmiri influences, offering a variety of vegetarian and non-vegetarian dishes. Popular local dishes include rajma chawal (kidney beans with rice), ambal (a sour pumpkin dish), and kaliya (a mutton curry). The region is also known for its delicious sweets, such as patisa and kalaadi (a traditional cheese).

Jammu boasts numerous tourist attractions that highlight its cultural and historical importance. The Vaishno Devi Temple, located in the Trikuta Mountains, is one of the most revered Hindu pilgrimage sites, attracting millions of devotees annually. UAE nationals who have previously obtained an e-visa or a regular paper visa for India are eligible for a Visa-on-Arrival when they visit India again. However, this facility is not available to those visiting India for the first time, who must instead apply for an e-visa or a regular visa. To obtain a Visa-on-Arrival, eligible UAE nationals need to fill out an application form (Annexure I), which can be downloaded and completed in advance or filled out upon arrival in India.
