Harrisburg, the capital of the US state of Pennsylvania, is also the administrative center of the region. According to 2011 data, Harrisburg, which has a population of about 50,000 people, is the ninth largest city of Pennsylvania. Founded 3000,000 years ago by the Native Americans alongside the Susquehanna River, the site was visited by British explorer John Smith, where he and his son built the city of Harrisburg. Later, the settlement grew and evolved into an industrial city. The Cumberland Valley and the Susquehanna River are west of the city and the Lebanon Valley is east of the city.  Despite the effects of the four seasons in the city, the summers are often hot and humid. The highest temperature seen throughout the year is 30 C, while the annual temperature in Winter is 2C. Places that can be seen in the city include City Island Beach and Wildwood Lake Park.
