About Baltrum

Baltrum is the smallest of the islands among the East Frisian Islands, consisting of seven islands, in Germany. Baltrum, which hosts about 500 native inhabitants according to 2011 data, is located in the central part of the East Frisian Islands. There are two intertwined villages named Ostdrof and Westdrof on the island. The island of Baltrum, with its own small airport and ferry pier, occupies an area 5 kilometers in length and 1.5 kilometers in width. The island of Baltrum, which thus spans a 6.5 kilometer area, houses a population of 600 people. This number can rise to 3500 in the summer due to tourism.

In summer, tourists, especially from the North Rhine-Westphalia Ruhr region, spend time on the beach in the Lower Saxony Wadden Sea National Park, as well as spending time with indoor swimming pools, miniature golf courses and sea activities. The highest point of the island is an observation tower about 19 meters above sea level on the central coast. The old churches, historical conservation fences, the Local History Museum and the National Park Museum are some of the places to be seen in the island.
