About Kos

Kos is a Greek island located 2 miles across the coast of Turkey in the Aegean Sea, with a population of 30,947. Tourism on the island is quite advanced. Kos is considered the birthplace of ancient physician Hippocrates and located in the heart of the town is the Tree of Hippocrates, which is where he is said to have taught his students. There is a larger population of Turks living on Kos. One of the island’s most popular parts is the Kardamaina village, which features restaurants that offer a combination of flavors and present rich feasts. The sine qua non of the island is of course seafood. Seafood dishes made with rich seasoning to add flavor are consumed in abundance on the island. Fruits and vegetables are also consumed in bulk on the island, which features a lot of Anatolian flavors as well.

Kos experiences a Mediterranean climate, with warm summers accompanied by cool air from the sea. The most common dish on the island is stuffed squash blossoms. In addition to stuffed squash blossoms, red meat with goat cheese is quite popular. Kos features a plethora of hotels, those that are perfect for a quiet and relaxing getaway and those that are located in the center of the island, close to the bustling entertainment. Famous for its unique landscape and wonderful weather, Kos is a great option as a honeymoon destination. 

Transportation to Kos City Center from Airport

Kos Intl. Airport

Ippokratis Airport, located 23 kilometers from the city center of Kos Island, which carries significant tourism potential among the islands connected to Greece, is inundated with tourists, especially in the summer months. Passengers arriving at the airport must take a taxi, bus or rent a car to reach the city center.

Taxi

Vehicles belonging to Radiotaxi, which is allowed to carry passengers by airport authorities, are waiting for 24 hours in front of and around the terminal building. You should note that there are Radiotaxi logos in the taxis to be used for transportation, and you may find it helpful to learn about the fare that you will pay for the area you are going to in advance.

Bus

You can go to the city center between 40 minutes and 1 hour depending on the intensity of the traffic with the buses moving at certain intervals from the bus stops located 5 minutes’ walk to the terminal building. You can pay in cash in buses which are the most economical transportation alternative.

Car Rental

Budget, Hertz, Avis and Kos Car Hire companies with offices in Ippokratis Airport terminals can be visited to rent a day during the day. Renting a car for those who will stay in the city for a long time can be a more economical solution to the transportation problem given that the taxi is expensive.
