Transportation to Airport from Delhi City Center

Indira Gandhi Intl. Airport

Indira Gandhi International Airport is located 16 km from the New Delhi city center. Indira Gandhi International Airport is one of the busiest airports in the country. One of the easiest transportation alternatives to get to the airport from the city center is by using your hotel’s airport shuttle service. If your hotel does not provide an airport shuttle service then other methods of transportation include taxis, buses, or the metro.

We would recommend having local currency on you at all times. Taxi drivers or bus drivers tend to demand higher fares in foreign currency. If you have the local currency on hand you won’t face this problem.

Bus

The cheapest method of transportation to get to Indira Gandhi International Airport is by bus. The bus fare is 50 rupee. It takes about 50 minutes to get to the airport from the city center. Buses run until 11 pm and depart from the Connaught Place area.

Metro

Public transportation in Delhi is provided by buses and the metro. The metro is the most profitable transportation alternative in terms of speed and price. The metro network in Delhi reaches almost every part of the city. To get to Indira Gandhi International Airport from the city center by metro you have to travel to the New Delhi Station. From this station you can get to the airport in about 20 minutes. The metro runs directly to the airport, stopping at Terminal 3.

Taxi

There are two types of taxicabs in Delhi that you can use for urban transportation. There are standard taxis whose fares are based on the kilometers traveled. These taxis can be called from any part of the city and provide comfortable transportation to the airport. Rickshaws are another type of ‘taxi’ transportation. However, rickshaws do not travel long distances. Rickshaws travel a maximum of 1-2 kilometers, making them ideal to use for a city tour. To get to the airport from the city center you can use a normal taxicab.
