About Jakarta
Jakarta, the bustling capital of Indonesia, is located on the northwest coast of Java Island. As a major economic and cultural hub, Jakarta offers a mix of modern skyscrapers, historic landmarks, and vibrant local life.
The city experiences a tropical monsoon climate, with warm temperatures year-round. The dry season from May to September is the best time to visit, as the weather is generally sunny and pleasant, while the rainy season from October to April brings occasional heavy showers.
Jakarta is served by Soekarno-Hatta International Airport, located about 30 kilometers from the city center. Direct and connecting flights from major UAE cities, including Dubai and Abu Dhabi, are operated by airlines such as Emirates, Etihad Airways, and Garuda Indonesia, providing convenient travel options for visitors.
Jakarta’s culinary offerings reflect Indonesia’s rich diversity. Popular dishes include nasi goreng (fried rice), sate ayam (chicken skewers with peanut sauce), and gado-gado (vegetable salad with peanut dressing). The city is also known for its street food markets and upscale dining venues serving international cuisines.
Tourists can explore several notable attractions in Jakarta, such as the National Monument (Monas), a symbol of Indonesian independence, and the Istiqlal Mosque, one of the largest mosques in Southeast Asia. Kota Tua (Old Town) offers a glimpse into the city’s colonial past, while modern shopping malls like Grand Indonesia and Plaza Indonesia cater to contemporary tastes. The Thousand Islands, a short boat ride from the city, provide opportunities for island-hopping and water activities.
Outdoor enthusiasts can visit Taman Mini Indonesia Indah, a cultural park showcasing Indonesia’s diverse heritage, or Ancol Dreamland, a popular seaside recreation area with beaches, an amusement park, and a water park.
UAE citizens can obtain a visa on arrival in Indonesia, valid for 30 days and extendable for another 30 days. Alternatively, travelers can apply for an e-visa online before departure. The visa-on-arrival process involves a fee of USD 35, payable at the airport.
