About Cebu

Cebu, known as the "Queen City of the South," is a major cultural and economic hub in the central Philippines. With a population of approximately 980,000 in the city and over 3 million in the metropolitan area as of 2023, Cebu is a dynamic region characterized by its historic landmarks, bustling ports, and thriving business districts.

The city experiences a tropical wet and dry climate, with hot, humid weather year-round and a rainy season from June to December. The best time to visit Cebu is during the dry season from January to May when the weather is ideal for beach outings and city tours.

Cebu is served by Mactan-Cebu International Airport, the second busiest in the Philippines, offering numerous domestic and international flights. The airport is a gateway for tourists coming from various parts of the world, including direct connections from key cities like Dubai and Doha, provided by airlines such as Emirates and Qatar Airways.

Cebuano cuisine is noted for its variety, with seafood playing a significant role due to the city's coastal location. Lechon, a whole roasted pig, is a must-try delicacy in Cebu, known for being among the best in the country. Other local specialties include sutukil (a trio of seafood dishes) and puso (hanging rice).

Major tourist attractions in Cebu City include the Basilica Minore del Santo Niño, which houses a revered religious icon dating back to the Spanish colonial era, and Magellan's Cross, a symbol of the Christianization of the Philippines. For shopping and modern entertainment, the Ayala Center Cebu offers a mix of local and international brands.

For those interested in natural beauty, the nearby island of Mactan offers world-class beach resorts and diving spots. The mountainous areas of Cebu, such as Osmeña Peak, provide hiking opportunities with panoramic views of the island.

Cultural and historical enthusiasts will find the Museo Sugbo and the Yap-Sandiego Ancestral House enriching, offering insights into Cebu’s colonial past and local traditions.

For UAE nationals, traveling to Cebu is facilitated by direct flights from major cities in the UAE. Visiting the Philippines generally requires a visa, which UAE citizens can obtain upon arrival or through the e-visa system. It is advisable to check the latest travel advisories and visa regulations before embarking on a trip to Cebu to ensure a smooth travel experience.
